Van Jones, Green For All and LCV’s Chispa Nevada Rally Against Diesel Pollution, Call for Governor to Invest VW dollars in Electric Buses
Van Jones, Green For All, and Chispa Nevada, an organizing program of the national League of Conservation Voters, will join students and families as they rally to demand action to eliminate dangerous diesel school bus emissions exposing kids and communities to dirty air and cancer-causing pollutants. Our current divisive climate in America calls for community leaders to address social injustice, criminal justice reform, access to opportunity and climate justice.
The event is part of the Clean Buses for Healthy Niños campaign calling on Governor Brian Sandoval and decision makers to put the health of Nevada’s youth and communities first by using the state’s $24.8 million Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust funds for electric clean energy, zero-emission school buses.
The rally welcomes parents, students and advocates to gather to discuss the effects of dirty diesel school bus emissions on their children and communities. As well as the economic benefits for school districts in switching to electric vehicles.
Confirmed speakers include:
Van Jones, CNN commentator, and president, Dream Corps
Vien Truong, CEO of Dream Corps and director of Green For All
Community members - Demi Falcon, Annette Magnus, Julia Aguirre, Caitlin Hipler
Rudy Zamora, Chispa Nevada director
Volkswagen cheated federal emissions tests, which polluted our air. Now they’re paying for their pollution and more than half of the settlement is going to states. Chispa Nevada is calling for these dollars to be reinvested in electric buses in local communities and school districts, especially those in low income and communities of color where students and families are most at risk of breathing dirty air and disproportionately suffering from air pollution.
Later that evening, Van Jones and Green For All will host the WE RISE tour at the House of Blues in Las Vegas.
