Bring a friend and jump in action planning!
We'll kick off the night with a review of all the projects that have been born from the AIA group. We hope this will inspire you to join or lead new projects and help us organize. The resistance (Indivisible, Swing Left, Flippable, MoveOn etc) needs artists and storytellers to frame the progressive agenda in a way that swing voters can hear and to inspire people to stay engaged. George Lakoff has some great guidelines for how we can improve the way we frame our messaging. Any marketing/advertising people out there- we need you!
We'll then break out into groups to get some work done. Please come prepared to join one of these groups for the evening (and hopefully ongoing)
The Banner Work Group:
Alicia Ziff is leading this group. We have banner material and a garage/studio in Echo Park where we can paint. We're raising money to make about 30 banners.
The Banner Group June 20th Agenda:
Decide on copy for the next banner
Set a date to paint
Find a place to hang the OMG GOP WTF banner
Identify who will carry it at the Impeachment March
Discuss making Freeway Banners or not
Plan distribution of the Go Fund Me
The Power of Song Work Group:
Samuel Curtis has been organizing a social justice song leadership workshop at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga, Ca. The workshop series will focus on the historical, ethnomusicological, and political significance of communal and organized group singing.
The Power of Song Work Group Agenda:
As a group, learn and sing 2 "songs of resistance"
Discuss the organizing/planning/booking of a publicized "Sing-In" at Amplifier in mid-July
Plan and Organize a direct-action of group singing/songleading at a coming march or meeting
Begin preliminary discussion on the research/writing/licensing and printing/publishing of a "Little Pink Song Book" (a modern version of the "Little Red Songbook")
All are Welcome. No Prior Singing Experience Needed.
The Turn Virgina Blue Work Group:
Sarah Ullman is leading the Turn Virgina Blue work group. We're crowdfunding $35,000 to create campaign videos for progressive candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates in the November 2017 election. Click here to see the crowdpac.com/c/onevote campaign.
The Turn Virgina Blue Work Group Agenda:
"adopt a candidate" fundraising idea.
Can a group of AIA members raise the $5K to finance a video for their chosen candidate? (if 20 people committed to raising $250 each (by asking 10 friends to donate $25)),
source crew members on the ground in VA
Graphic Design needs
The Producers group
Many of you in the group are producer-types. We need to gather our organizational knowledge and resources to understand how to strengthen the collective work of AIA as well as support work groups in securing funding, press attention, or other needed resources.
